Police said they believe the girl was abducted Wednesday evening following a domestic violence incident.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Just after midnight Thursday Westminster Police were notified by the Wyoming State Patrol that the one-year-old that was taken from her home in Westminster had been found south of Cheyenne.

The girl’s father Alexander Damian Martinez, 28, was taken into custody without incident.

The girl was with him and safe. She will be returned to her mother.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had issued an Amber Alert for a one-year-old child that they say was taken from an apartment complex in Westminster Wednesday night.

Police said someone called 911 around 6:15 p.m. to report a domestic violence disturbance at the Park Place apartments at 9181 Federal Blvd., located near the corner of 91st Avenue and Federal Boulevard. When officers arrived, they were told by the female victim that her husband had assaulted her and taken their one-year-old child.

Martinez drove off in a 2011 Toyota Camry with Colorado plate number BBCS47, according to police.

Police said a witness told them the suspect was going to crash the car and kill himself and the child before leaving the scene.

Please call the Westminster dispatch at 303-658-4360 with any information that could assist with the investigation.

“Amber” stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The alert was created after the January 1996 kidnapping and murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman.

Certain criteria must be met before an Amber Alert is issued:

  • The abducted child must be 17 years old or younger.

  • The abducted child must be in immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death.

  • There must be enough descriptive information available to believe a broadcast will assist or aid in the recovery.

  • A local law enforcement agency or Amber designee from another state must request the activation.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is responsible for issuing amber alerts.
